Celebrate an American Legend

The Jesse Owens Oak Tree, an important piece of American history rooted in Old Brooklyn, stands as a testament to perseverance and excellence. During the Berlin Olympic Games, Jesse Owens shocked the world by clinching four gold medals in four different events and was awarded four oak trees symbolizing each of them. The prominent trackstar decided to plant one behind Rhodes High School where he used to train in Old Brooklyn. It has been preserved through grafting by Rhodes High School. Pay tribute to Owens’ legacy and achievements and reflect on this iconic moment in U.S. history at this memorial in Old Brooklyn.

Old Brooklyn Community Development Corporation (Old Brooklyn CDC or OBCDC) is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization serving the Old Brooklyn neighborhood of Cleveland. Established in the 1970s, their mission is to serve the Old Brooklyn community through empowered partnerships, leadership, programming, and advocacy. Their dedicated staff works to improve the quality of life within the neighborhood for residents, businesses, and other community partners. OBCDC engages in various projects throughout the community, including supporting small businesses, managing the Old Brooklyn Farmers Market, providing residential lead testing, home repair programs, and creating new placemaking strategies in the neighborhood. Their work is rooted in the belief that Old Brooklyn is a great place to grow; a diverse area of Cleveland that is home to people of all ages and backgrounds.
