Cleveland’s newest namesake naval vessel is coming home, and the city is ready to celebrate.
USS Cleveland Week marks the official commissioning of the U.S. Navy’s newest Freedom-variant Littoral Combat Ship, the USS Cleveland (LCS 31). This once-in-a-generation moment brings sailors, visitors and unmistakable energy to the downtown waterfront for a multi-day lineup of public tours, ceremonies and community events.
In the days leading up to the commissioning, visitors can step aboard the USS Cleveland during limited public tours, offering a rare, up-close look at one of the Navy’s most advanced ships. The week builds toward the official commissioning ceremony, when the ship is formally placed into active service and welcomed into the fleet.
Why This is Special
Opportunities like this do not come around often.
The USS Cleveland is only the second Navy ship to carry the city’s name since the USS Cleveland (LPD-7) was decommissioned in 2011. Its arrival is both a military milestone and a meaningful connection between the city and those who serve.
For Cleveland, this is more than a ceremony. It is a moment that reflects the city’s legacy on the water, its role in American industry and its enduring ties to the Great Lakes. The lakefront becomes the backdrop for something truly memorable, where local pride meets national significance.
