Coinciding with the CMA’s exhibition Epic of the Northwest Himalayas: Pahari Paintings from the “‘Shangri’ Ramayana,” families are invited to experience the beauty, rhythm, and storytelling of Bharatanatyam through an engaging, family-friendly cultural program led by Indian classical dancers from Shri Kalaa Mandir. Attendees watch dancers bring gods, heroes, nature, and timeless tales to life through the magic of Indian classical dance. Discover a world where poetic verses are animated through graceful movements, rhythmic footwork, vibrant costumes, and dynamic storytelling. Audience members explore the art of storytelling through dramatic facial expressions and symbolic hand gestures in a fun interactive session. This event is perfect for both first-time audiences and arts lovers. Today’s performance is a precursor to Shri Kalaa Mandir’s production in the CMA’s Gartner Auditorium on August 2 at 2:00 p.m. called “Crucible of Honor,” which showcases Indian dance theatre with a live orchestra. About Shri Kalaa Mandir Founded in 1993 by Artistic Director Sujatha Srinivasan, Shri Kalaa Mandir—Center for Indian Performing Arts is a leading Bharatanatyam dance company in Northeast Ohio known for its award-winning traditional and innovative productions, arts education, and community-outreach programs.
