Cleveland-based artist Jordan Wong continues his exploration of identity, growth, and the Ultimate Self through the lens of Chinese and American culture in his exhibition "I LOVE THE NUMBER 8, BUT 10 IS GOOD TOO." Wong presents ten works, many of which mark the artist’s first foray into sculpture while continuing to translate his drawings and visuals into other media and experiences, including lenticular prints, animation, laser-cut steel, and more. Additionally, this exhibition provides a preview of Wong’s creative vision for five new public artworks—made possible through the City of Cleveland’s Transformative Arts Fund in partnership with The Sculpture Center and in collaboration with MidTown Cleveland and OCA (Asian Pacific American Advocates, Greater Cleveland Chapter) that will be installed in Cleveland’s AsiaTown, currently a DIY community space with plans to become a future permanent park for the neighborhood’s residents and visitors. Artist Biography As a Chinese American whose childhood was filled with anime, manga, and video games, Jordan Wong (WONGFACE) creates drawings, characters, and icons to contemplate the hero’s journey, the game theory of leveling up throughout life, and the Ultimate Self. Jordan has produced large-scale installations and public artwork for the city of Cleveland as well as exhibited at the Children’s Museum of Pittsburgh (2024 and 2020), Massillon Museum (2023), and Akron Art Museum (2021 – 2022). From 2020 to 2022 Jordan served as the president of the Cleveland chapter of AIGA, the professional association for design. His work has been featured by Ideastream, Destination Cleveland, Downtown Cleveland Alliance, Channel 3 WKYC, News 5 Cleveland, The Great Discontent (issue no. 5), Graphic Design USA (”People to Watch 2021”), Cleveland Magazine (”Most Interesting People 2021”), PressureLife, The Land, FreshWater Cleveland, and CAN Journal. Jordan has artwork in the collections of Meta (the parent company of Facebook), Cleveland Public Library, University Hospitals, Laura and Fred Bidwell (founder and former executive director of FRONT Triennial, now concluded), and other private collectors.
