Each artist will share the stories, influences, and processes behind their art. These conversations will explore identity, displacement, resilience, and belonging—each artists’ relationship to the collective stories of migration within Cleveland’s Latinx community, as part of Edra Soto’s "La Casa Compartida | The Home We Share." Join us to support local voices and conversations. This event is free to the public. About the Artists Nathalie Bermudez‘s artistic journey is a captivating story of passion, perseverance, and cultural fusion. Originating from Colombia, where she received her early training at the Actors Studio Academy, Nathalie had a goal to push her artistic skills to the next level. To achieve this, she decided to travel to the United States in 2015. Already holding an Associate of Arts degree from Colombia, she was highly motivated to explore the world of theatrical arts in greater depth. This determination led her to Cleveland State University’s Department of Theater, where she graduated, further solidifying her commitment to her craft. Upon her arrival in the U.S., Nathalie discovered painting as a powerful medium through which she could explore her Colombian heritage and express her evolving identity within a new culture. Her artistic versatility has been highlighted through collaborations with notable entities like Samsung Mobile USA and significant projects such as a mural for The Cleveland PlayHouse Square and a large-scale painting for the New MetroHealth main campus. Yet, it is her acting roles with Teatro Publico De Cleveland and Latinus Theater Company that truly spotlight her exceptional ability to engage and move audiences, showcasing her profound storytelling and emotional depth. Nathalie Bermudez’s work, deeply rooted in her Colombian origins and enriched by her experiences in the United States, seeks to forge cultural connections and spark creativity. Through her significant contributions to the visual and performing arts, she has emerged as a dynamic and inspiring figure dedicated to enhancing the cultural fabric and building bridges across communities. Laura Camila Medina (1995) is an interdisciplinary artist born in Bogotá, Colombia. Her practice is deeply inspired by the kisses between mountains and sky of her birthplace intertwined with the thematic fantasy-scape and migrant microcosms of Central Florida. Her work has been exhibited at The Luminary, Yossi Milo, David Castillo Gallery, SPURS, Arts Fort Worth, Fuller Rosen Gallery, the Portland Art Museum, and Nationale. She was awarded the H. Lee Hirsche Memorial Prize, Dean’s Travel Grant, and CCAM Fellowship at Yale University, Individual Artist Fellowship from the Oregon Arts Commission, New Media Fellowship at Open Signal, and various artist residencies including: the Living School of Art, ACRE, Signal Fire, and Centrum. She is represented by Nationale in Portland, OR. Medina earned her BFA at the Pacific Northwest College of Art and an MFA in Painting & Printmaking from Yale University. She is currently based in Cleveland, OH, where she is the AICAD Post-Graduate Fellow at the Cleveland Institute of Art. Orlando Caraballo is an interdisciplinary artist based in Cleveland, OH. Trained in both Drawing & Printmaking and deeply informed by his love for music and poetry, his artwork is rooted in imaginative world-building that investigates the relationship between personal and cultural identity as a Puerto Rican growing up in the Midwest and the (re)claiming of his agency through love, grief as its byproduct, and the understanding of history’s complex impact on the world we live in. His portfolio ranges from works on paper to scalable installations and performance art, following the ancestral tradition of storytelling to preserve and pass forward consejos, or wisdoms. Also an arts administrator, Orlando serves as the Director of Artist Experiences at the Cleveland Print Room, co-creating invitational opportunities and providing resources for artists to cultivate community and holistic creative practices through salons, residencies, fellowships, and focus groups.
